This is my weekly post where I highlight and appreciate cover designs and the general physical appearance of books. We all judge book covers to some extent. I can’t say that I’ve ever decided against a book with terrible cover art if I liked the sound of the plot, but I have purchased special editions of books, or multiple editions of books based on their cover art. If book covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t put out so many beautiful editions!
I snagged this beauty from an Instagram shop for a few bucks and it’s totally worth it. This is The Runes of Elfland, with art by Brian Froud. If memory serves me, Mum had a calendar with his art and I have a few pictures (somewhere) waiting to be framed. This book is adorable (published in 2003 by Harry Abrams ISBN: 9780810946125) and discusses some runes and their lore with beautiful artwork.
I love Brian Froud’s illustrations. I’ve been tempted to purchase his books a few times but I have to save for that.

Keep your eyes out for used editions if you can.
