This is my weekly post where I highlight and appreciate cover designs and the general physical appearance of books. We all judge book covers to some extent. I can’t say that I’ve ever decided against a book with terrible cover art if I liked the sound of the plot, but I do purchase special editions of books and multiple editions of books based on their cover art. If book covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t put out so many beautiful editions!
Wow! More middle-grade! I know none of you are surprised. But hey, I’ve actually read one of these – The Seafarer’s Kiss – and I enjoyed it. So you see, sometimes I do read the books I post, instead of only mooning over how pretty they are.
The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julia Ember – self-published in 2017, design & cover by CB Messer, ISBN: 9781945053207.
This is Not a Werewolf Story by Sandra Evans – published by Atheneum in 2016, cover art by Maike Plenzke, cover design Debra Sfetsios-Conover, ISBN: 9781481444811.
The Gallery by Laura Marx Fitzgerald – published by Puffin in 2016, cover art by Sarah J. Coleman, book design by Jennifer Kelly, ISBN: 9780142427705.
I loved the cover for The Gallery, but wasn’t very impressed with the story, sadly. It was a weird mix. YA content in a MG package. Plus a slow-moving plot that gets resolved when the reader isn’t present. All very odd!

Hmm. I’ll have to see what I think of it whenever I actually get around to it lol. I honestly don’t even remember what it’s supposed to be about.

Hm. I’m not sure I entirely remember! A girl in the 1920s goes to work as a servant in a mysterious house with a large gallery. That’s all I’ve got. 😀

Hopefully I’ll get to it soon so maybe we can discuss! Lol

Gorgeous selections as per usual! I’ve never heard of The Gallery or This is not a Werewolf Story, but their covers are stunning! I thought The Seafarer’s Kiss was a YA book? I didn’t realize it was MG.

Soooo I took these pictures before I actually read Kiss, so I didn’t know it was YA at the time lol

Middle grade books seem to get more lovely every year! (I’m happy to find another MG reader, and I’ve added your blog to bloglovin so I can follow you there! I do a round-up every Sunday of MG sci fi and fantasy from around the blogs, so I’m always looking for reviews to include….)

Oh yay! Yeah MG is an underrated genre, I think. So many readers seem to avoid it in favor of YA. I think MG books have some of the best covers around.
