This is my weekly post where I highlight and appreciate cover designs and the general physical appearance of books. We all judge book covers to some extent. I can’t say that I’ve ever decided against a book with terrible cover art if I liked the sound of the plot, but I do purchase special editions of books and multiple editions of books based on their cover art. If book covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t put out so many beautiful editions!
Waking Gods by Sylvain Nuevel is the sequel to Sleeping Giants (neither of which I’ve read, but whatever) and I found it at one of my local stores for about 60% off I think. Of course, the sticker was covering the rip in the dust jacket, which was an annoying surprise when I got home, but I still would have bought it because it was a good bargain. Published in 2017 by Del Rey, with cover illustration by Jozsef Hunor Vilhelema and jacket and case design by Charles Brock, ISBN: 9781101886724. I am a little disappointed that Waking Gods doesn’t have a second illustration on the back like Sleeping Giants does. Alas.
Love the covers!! Tempted to get Waking God’s but I haven’t yet read Sleeping Giants to know if I’ll like it.
