This is my weekly post where I highlight beautiful books from my collection. We all judge book covers to some extent – I created this feature to highlight and appreciate the art and design elements of some of the books I own. If covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t put out so many wonderful editions!
I picked this up recently because of its shiny cover and because based on the title I had zero idea what this sci-fi book might be about. Turns out it’s environmental sci-fi and I’m excited. (EDIT: I read this at the end of June while I was on vacation and HATED it. Womp!)
It’s written by Claire Vaye Watkins, was published in 2016 by Riverhead Books with cover design by Rachel Willey (and inspired by Paul-Henri Schaedelin – Studio Fables) and book design and illustrations by Lauren Kolm, ISBN: 9781594634246.
Sorry ye hated it matey! Are ye going to keep it in yer collection because it be pretty? Or ye going to unhaul it and toss it overboard?

I’d like to make it walk the plank, but I have a friend who likes the cover, so it will sit on her ship instead.

Too bad the book didn’t live up to its design. It really is aesthetically pleasing.

I love the purple and yellow cover! That’s not a combination I see often!
