Judging A Book

Judging A Book By Its Cover: The Lord of the Rings

This is my weekly post where I highlight beautiful books from my collection. We all judge book covers to some extent (don’t lie, you totally do!) I created this feature to showcase and admire the art and design elements of some of the books I own. If covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t make so many wonderful editions!

It’s been a while since I featured an edition of The Hobbit, so this week I figured I’d do one of only 3 (yes, only) complete sets I have of the series. These are our “reading copies” as the other two sets are vintage and delicate. Honestly, I’ve only read The Hobbit, but Sweetbeeps likes to revisit the trilogy now and then.

These were all published by Houghton Mifflin in 1997 – I think. They have cover design by Steven Cooley, cover illustrations by Alan Lee and maps by Stephen Raw.

Hobbit ISBN: 0618002219
Fellowship ISBN: 0618002227
Two Towers ISBN: 0618002235
Return of King ISBN: 0618002243
