Hi, I’m back doing this tag I created!
I’m not super into Christmas, but I thought I would support myself by doing the tag I created last year…again. Yes, thrilling content, I know. I’m trying to stick with more recent reads of mine, but I can’t promise that.
+ A Partridge in a Pear Tree (ok, but do partridges even live where pear trees grow?): A book whose plot and genre seem like an unlikely pairing
This is maybe a bit of a stretch, but I immediately thought of Only Forward by Michael Marshall Smith. It’s a sci-fi detective plot that turns full-on fantasy acid-trip dream world at the end.
+ Two Turtle Doves: Your favorite character pairing (romantic or non, hell, you can even cross fandoms if you want)
I’m going with Mars and Seven (and Ocho) from Corey J. White’s Voidwitch Saga. I’m a sucker for animal sidekicks, especially ones that have cat-like tendencies.
+ Three French Hens: A chunky trilogy you love (hens are plump, right? That’s where I was going with this one, don’t judge me)
This is semi-cheating (but really, when don’t I cheat on tags?) but I’m going with the Wildwood Chronicles by Colin Meloy, even though I haven’t read the last book. But I love the first two!
+ Four Calling Birds: Four characters you’d like to have a chat on the phone with
Mars (Voidwitch Saga) – I want to see what mischief she’s up to now!
Joe Lang (Sawdust in His Shoes) – he’s probably not very good at using a phone since they were relatively new, but he was just such a great character and I’d want to know more about his life in the circus.
Archivist Werfel (The Assassination of Brangwain Spurge) – the most relatable goblin nerd. I feel like we could talk about history and books and organization and stuff!
Greta Helsing (Strange Practice) – I feel like she’d just be good to chat with…once she got over the fact that some rando was calling her…
+ Five Golden Rings: A character whose jewelry (or, let’s be lenient and include general fashion) you would copy
Domino Swift from Motorcrush! Except I’d need her bod too.
+ Six Geese a Laying: A trilogy you’d like to see get three more books
Kings of the Wyld and Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames are a duology, but I’d love three more books in that world!
+ Seven Swans a Swimming: A water-based book you’d recommend (pirates, merms, cthulhus, whatever!)
Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant! Two words: SCARY MERMS
+ Eight Maids a Milking: Favorite book about cows! Just kidding! (I mean, unless you actually have one…) favorite book set in the country and/or on farm
American Hippo by Sarah Gailey is really set in the American swampland, but it’s also kind of like cowboys with hippos, so I’m going with that.
+ Nine Ladies Dancing: Character you’d like to dance with (it doesn’t have to be a slow dance)
I feel like I could get down on the dance floor with Wade Watts from Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.
+ Ten Lords a Leaping: A lordly (princely, royal, rich, whatever) character you’d like to see leap off a bridge
Jorg from the Broken Empire trilogy from Mark Lawrence. He was such a tool.
+ Eleven Pipers Piping: A character you think would be most likely to hire a band to serenade you
Wow, this feels like an obscure prompt. Geordie Riddle from many of Charles de Lint’s Newford books could serenade me himself, since he’s a musician.
+ Twelve Drummers Drumming: Drumroll please! Pick a book you love so much you feel it deserves a drumroll (if you can, make it something you haven’t already talked about this year)
Hmmm. My most recent read was Empire of Sands by Tasha Suri – it was pretty good and I feel like the drumroll is appropriate given the amount of dancing in the book and the fact that it’s kind of a slow build (in a good way).

If you give me tag a go, please link it back here or tag me in a comment or something so I can see your answers! If you celebrate anything this season, happy holidays!
What a creative tag! Props for coming up with your own original tag. How ironic that you are not big into Christmas, but created a Christmas tag lol Have you created any other tags?

Haha I have no idea what possessed me to make one, and a longer one at that. Maybe I was trying to get into Christmas? It didn’t work lol, but it was fun coming up with new answers. So far this is the only one I’ve created. It feels like there are already so many, with many of the same questions.
