Judging A Book

Judging A Book By Its Cover: Lord of the Rings (II)

This is my weekly post where I highlight beautiful books from my collection. We all judge book covers to some extent (don’t lie, you totally do!) I created this feature to showcase and admire the art and design elements of some of the books I own. If covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t make so many wonderful editions!

I absolutely love these editions – they’re so vibrant and whacky. Very 70s inspired, I think. I’ve seen them around here and there, but never the full set and I didn’t want to buy one or two and risk spending years trying to complete the trilogy (and I was too lazy to do much research online to see how rare they are or if they’re on ebay or something.) When I was at Bookmans in Tucson, I found all three for $4 each, which I think is a great deal! They’re in great shape too – Fellowship does have a little water damage, but it’s not horrible.

These were published in 1995 for Quality Paperback Book Club with cover designs by Monica Elias and cover illustrations by Richard Beards. They also have jumbo pull-out maps in the back!
