After the new year, I’ll have a post about my December stats and my overall 2018 stats. For now, I want to talk about my reading goals for 2019.
I’m going to set another ambitious goal of reading at least 125 books throughout the year. It feels both ambitious and achievable. I know there’s no prize for how many books I read and no real consequences if I don’t meet my goal – but given the number of unread books I own, I like to try to read as much as possible.
I feel like I read a lot of newer releases in 2018 (2017 and 2018 publications are what I would consider “newer”) though I don’t track that in my sheet so I don’t have stats. I really need to focus on the books that have been sitting my shelves for years (and years and years.)
“But, Millie, I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and you say that, like, all the time…”
WELL.
It’s a lifetime goal, ok!?
I would like about 40% of the books I read in 2019 to fall into what I’ve been calling my “dusty bookshelf” category. I’ll count anything purchased before 2017 in this category. Yes, I guess 2 years is a normal amount of time for a book to sit around unread.
To help me focus on this, I’m going to continue my TBR Teardown challenge. I’m going to try to stick to that mini-TBR each month. We’ll see how I do!
I still need to get my review pile under control. I’m hoping to start by focusing on the titles I requested from NetGalley. There are 5 of them and I tend to forget about them because e-books fall into my “out of sight, out of mind” category. I do try not to request something on NetGalley unless I’m really excited about it, but sometimes I get lured in by the emails they send or the recommendations on their front page.
Then I’ll go through my physical copies, focusing on the few I requested before tackling my unsolicited pile.

There you have it – I’m not big on challenges where you check off certain genres or something. The backlog of books living in my house is enough of a challenge. But maybe I’ll do a few more readathons in the future!
Here’s to a good reading year of all of us!
I’m with you on those goals. I need to read more of my own damn books. Was hoping to do so in 2018 in an attempt to buy less books but ended up just borrowing more from the library instead << a slight improvement.

Haha yeah I bought way too many books as usual and ended up reading more of the newer ones. Here’s to more focus in 2019!

Focusing on the back log is always a good goal. I hope you read lots of great books in 2019!
