This is my weekly post where I highlight beautiful books from my collection. We all judge book covers to some extent (don’t lie, you totally do!) I created this feature to showcase and admire the art and design elements of some of the books I own. If covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t make so many wonderful editions!
I got this as a gift for Christmas in 2017 and now Christmas of 2018 has come and gone and I still haven’t read it. Surprising no one! Maguire is a little hit-or-miss for me though. I didn’t like his Alice book (which was surprising and disappointing) nor did I like…Lost, I think it was called. But I love, love, love Wicked (though I need to finish the series), Mirror, Mirror and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. Someday, we’ll find out what I think of Hiddensee!
This Nutcracker reimagining is by Gregory Maguire, with jacket and case designs and illustrations by Scott McKowen, and was published in 2017 by William Morrow, ISBN: 9780062664387.
Nightmare fuel.
Is it deckle edge? I’m always conflicted by that because it looks nice, but then it can be more difficult to turn the pages.

Yeah it’s deckle. I like the effect, though I wouldn’t want it on every book. But you’re right, sometimes the pages stick together

The nut on the front really looks 3D! I want to touch it, haha.

Haha. Yeah it’s some awesome art, though the nutcracker face creeps me the fuck out
