December Wrap Up – 2019 Review – 2020 Goals

Today I bring you not only my December wrap up, but my stats for the year and some reading goals for 2020.

In December I read 16 books (woo!) for a total of 3,455 pages and an average of 112 pages per day. I finished the year strong with both numbers and quality reads! Focusing mostly on re-reads, middle-grade and graphic novels is definitely a good way for me to end the year. I really loved re-reading Alias Hook (and sharing the experience with my friend Mel, who loved it, thankfully). For non-re-reads, Skull-Faced Bookseller was definitely a stand-out. Now if I can just catch up on writing reviews!

Better Reads Challenge:

Considering the hectic holiday season, I’m super happy I read all but two days!

Month: 29/31
Year: 349/365

Non-Review Highlights:

10 Year Challenge Book Tag

Year in Review

This year I read 130 books for a total of 30,567 pages! I’m very happy with this, though we won’t talk about the alarming rate at which I add books to my collection.

Sadly, I didn’t quite put as much focus on my backlog as I wanted, so only 16% of my reads were from my ‘dusty bookshelf.’ But that’s better than nothing.

Here are the deets:

Average pages per book: 235
Average books per month:11
Average pages per month: 2,547
Average pages per day: 84 (but if we consider that I read 349 days out of the year, my average would actually be 88 – lol yes, I got that technical about this)
I read the most books and pages in December
DNFs: 4 (Anackire, How to Experience Death for Beginners, Dragonshadow, Black Leopard Red Wolf)

2020 Goals

One of my goals in life is to stop setting goals for myself that I know I won’t meet. So I plan to read at least 125 books again, because I’ve proven to myself that I can do that. (And if I can’t, that’s ok!) I’m going to continue to DNF books that I’m not enjoying. I also still want to focus on my backlist, which I’ll say is anything over 2 years ago (I feel like my definition of backlist changes every year.) But my main goal is to just read as much as I want to and enjoy as much of what I read as possible!

Here’s to all of us meeting our reading goals and continuing to share our love of books!

  1. Just popping in to say that Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH was one of my favorites growing up! Must have read it at least a dozen times. (We shall not speak of the movie.) I wonder where my old copy has gotten to…

    1. I think my first exposure to the story was the movie. Pretty sure I loved it haha. Not sure how it’d hold up. But I’m glad to find I still enjoy the book. I used to have the movie tie in cover and I kinda miss it 🤣
