August!
In August I read 9 books for a total of 2,319 pages and an average of 75 pages per day. The number of books I read this month scaled down, but I did conquer a 900-page book, which is something I haven’t done in a long time!
In terms of quality, I had kind of a meh reading month. Becky Chambers and Tanith were rereads for me, while Mem, Pet, Embassy, and Cinderella all ended up being somewhat disappointing. Kushiel’s Dart was a win, but it was also my first time reading a heckin’ chonker fantasy in a long time, so it took me a while to get through even though I was enjoying it.
To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers
First Sentence: If you read nothing else we’ve sent home, please at least read this.
Mermendium by Manelle Oliphant
Sabella by Tanith Lee
First Sentence: I was out hunting the night my aunt Cassi died.
Mem by Bethany C. Morrow
First Sentence: I am a memory.
The Marvelous Collection of Alvin Guilbert by Manelle Oliphant
Pet by Akwaeke Emezi
First Sentence: There shouldn’t be any monsters left in Lucille.
Embassy of the Dead by Will Mabbitt
First Sentence: There as some things in life and death that are certain.
Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey
First Sentence: Lest anyone should suppose that I am a cuckoo’s child, got on the wrong side of the blanket by lusty peasant stock and sold into indenture in a short fallen season, I may say that I am House-born and reared in the Night Court proper, for all the good it did me.
Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron
First Sentence: Cinderella has been dead for two hundred years.
DNF
Masters of the Broken Watches by Razi Imam
First Sentence: “They are taking my child away!”
I’m reading Kushiel’s Dart now!! 🙂 As part of a group read. And damn! Not at all what I expected, but I like it so far.

My review will be up Thursday, but I definitely want to read the rest of the trilogy. The sexy aspect is like nothing I’ve read in fantasy before.

Same here. It caught me by surprise because I didn’t expect it in a fantasy story. I like the writing though. I’ll look out for your review.

It’s my typical rambling garbage when I like a book 🤣
