This is my weekly post where I highlight beautiful books from my collection. We all judge book covers to some extent (don’t lie, you totally do!) I created this feature to showcase and admire the art and design elements of some of the books I own. If covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t make so many wonderful editions!
Sometimes I take just a few pictures of a book, sometimes I take 20+. This situation is the latter, and, in this case, these pictures are as much for me as they are for you guys. Sadly, I didn’t love this series enough to keep it on my shelves, knowing I’ll never pick them up again. So I decided to send them off to a friend to give her a chance to read and enjoy them. It was hard to let go of such beautifully designed books though! The line-work on the illustrations is phenomenal and I adore the color scheme. The inside flaps are so detailed that I found myself discovering new elements each time I looked at them! But as my hoard grows, I do try to be strict when I can, and I just couldn’t keep these beauties.
The trilogy was published in 2014 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux, with cover design by Charlotte Strick, and cover and author illustrations by Eric Nyquist.

It wasn’t until taking these pictures that I noticed the lady in this one…
I thought it was apt that I was using a bunny bookmark for this read.
I also didn’t notice the lady until you pointed her out!
I agree with you on these – the cover art is AMAZING, and I liked the books ok, but I also never need to reread them again. (I thought Annihilation was by far the strongest of the three, and then it seemed like Vandermeer didn’t know quite what to do with it – the whole “it’s aliens” thing seemed like a cop out, though the lighthouse keeper was a great character.)

Yes, Annihilation was definitely the strongest. He set up such a great environment with this vague sense of dead throughout. But then, I felt like he lost it. The clones didn’t play out in a satisfying way and I was left with too many questions. I liked the lighthouse keeper too.

Oh man. I dunno if I’d like the story but I’m SO tempted to get the books. They are beautiful.

Those end pages ((insert emoji with heart eyes))
I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of this series… Sorry it wasn’t a hit for you, but that’s wonderful you are sharing them with a friend to enjoy:)
If I had to pick, I’d say Acceptance is my favorite cover.

These are some of my favorite books from an aesthetic point. I love the colors, the line work, everything!

I do love the design for these books! I don’t own them but hope to one day. I’ve only read them once and I think they might benefit from a reread, though I can definitely understand why you would pass them on.

It was really hard to part with them. But I collect plenty of other books just for looks lol
