Movie Review: The Beastmaster

I recently read the review posted on the Captain’s Quarters for The Beastmaster movie and she encouraged me to commence my own re-watch, as I have plenty of nostalgic love for this movie and she wanted to hear my thoughts on it now.

My Favorite Scenes From The Hobbit

Look, no one needs another damn review of The Hobbit. If you haven’t heard of the book or heard/read someone’s opinion on it, you can throw a virtual stone on any literary website and probably find more reviews, articles, and homages than you could shake a stick (virtual or otherwise) at. So instead I’m going to talk about some of my favorite scenes – the ones that keep me rereading this book every year!

Movie Review: Love, Simon

Anyone who’s read at least a handful of my posts knows I don’t have a great track record with YA. It’s definitely my least favorite age group, and while I keep trying, I seem to have very little success with the books I pick up.

Knowing that, you’ll probably be surprised to find that I went with a friend to go see Love, Simon, the new movie based off Becky Albertalli’s novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. Book Versus Movie: Howl’s Moving Castle

In a previous post, I made a list of books whose movie adaptations I enjoyed as much as (or more than) the original texts and Howl’s Moving Castle was one of them. Movie Review: Mansfield Park

Mansfield Park
Directed by Patricia Rozema

1999, Miramax Films
Starring: Frances O’Connor, Jonny Lee Miller, James Purefoy

Note: I expected this movie to be in the same vein as the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice and the 1995 version of Sense and Sensibility. However, it wasn’t. In preparing to post the review I wrote right after watching the film, I found that Wikipedia describes the movie as “loosely based on Jane Austen’s novel of the same name…the film differs sharply from the original novel in many respects.” Had I known that going in, perhaps my expectations would have been lower and my review different.

You can read my review and a general synopsis of the book here – or just Google the plot.
