Judging A Book

Judging A Book By Its Cover: The Night Circus

This is my weekly post where I highlight beautiful books from my collection. We all judge book covers to some extent (don’t lie, you totally do!) I created this feature to showcase and admire the art and design elements of some of the books I own. If covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t make so many wonderful editions!

I have four copies of The Night Circus now and I’m over the moon about it! I’ve already done a post for the two paperbacks, but I just wanted to take a couple shots of the whole family.

Today I’m featuring the two hardcovers – the U.S. edition I picked up used so I can have a sturdy copy to annotate in the future (you see, the second paperback from the top is the only copy I’ll actually use for reading because, yes, I am insane) and then a friend gifted me the Waterstones edition with the blue sprayed edges. -HEART EYES-

U.S. Hardcover – Jacket illustration by Helen Musselwhite, jacket design by John Fontana and book design by Pei Loi Kay, published in 2011 by Doubleday, ISBN: 9780385534635.

Waterstones – Jacket illustration by Kate Forrester, published in 2019 by Penguin, ISBN: 9781787302266.

I love the paper art!

Because I noticed it, you have to as well – the design is not centered on the cover – look at all that space on the right! U_U

Those edges though.

  1. Ah, they’re all so beautiful. I’m reading the night circus for the first time and I’ve been dragged into it’s beautiful world so now I’m tempted to get some of the other editions. The hardbacks are especially gorgeous!
