This is my weekly post where I choose to appreciate a book for its cover art or overall design – to me, a well-designed book is like a piece of art. We all judge book covers to some extent. Personally, it’s usually a title/cover combination that pulls me in when I’m browsing in a bookstore. I can’t say that I’ve ever decided against a book with terrible cover art if I liked the sound of the plot, but I have purchased special editions of books, or multiple editions of books based on their cover art. If book covers didn’t matter, publishers (looking at you, Penguin!) wouldn’t put out so many beautiful editions!

A friend sent me an email with a book challenge for 2015 and I think I may try my hand at this as well. It’s a 50 book list (well 52 because one item is for a trilogy) from PopSugar. I’m not going to go crazy trying to complete this list, because with my goal of reading 110 books and making 40 of them books I already own, I’ve got enough on my plate. But I figured it might be neat to see what books I do pick this year that can be crossed off this list.
Are you taking any reading challenges this year? Aside from just trying to read 100 or more books a year, I’ve never really done any of these challenges before.

In December I read 4 books, for a total of 2,542 pages and an average of 83 pages per day. One of these was a review book and 1,439 of the total pages came from The Stand, which I’m surprised I was able to finish before the end of the year.

Another year has come to a close, and this has been the fourth year that I’ve kept track of the books I’ve read and stats related to that. I really enjoy tracking my progress like this and I think it’s something I’ll continue for a long time. Here’s what I’ve got from 2014:
This is the first year that most books read and most pages read weren’t the same month. For 2013 and 2012, I also read 103 books, and when I started all this in 2011, I read 104 books. For 2015 I’ve set my Goodreads goal for 110 books (if you want to friend me, I’m here), though honestly, anything over 100 is awesome. I’ve also set up a goal with one of the groups I belong to, to read 40 books from those I already own, rather than any new ones I purchase this year.

Since it’s December I wanted to do a sort of holiday post – in reviewing my bookshelf, I realized there’s a lack of holiday-themed books, but I found a few cuties from my childhood to reminisce about.
In November I read 9 books for a total of 2,540 pages and averaged 85 pages per day. Four of them were review books and my favorite was probably The Martian, though I also really loved Homeland and Horns.
In October I read 8 books for a total of 2,321 pages and an average of 75 pages per day!
